Burgos Level 1 Group

by ICP Examiner Natalia Santamaria, Spain

September is an awesome month for skating in Europe, usually we enjoy a mild weather which make us skaters happy over the moon-nice weather, nice people is simply the perfect combination!

Burgos, a small city in Spain 200km up north from Madrid, received candidates from a variety of different countries: Ukraine, Germany, Portugal and Spain. A truly international group with skaters from different skating disciplines which included speed skaters, figure skaters and free-style skaters.

Burgos Level 1 Theory

A very warm Friday afternoon kept us skating from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM which included a solid skating assessment which sets the ICP standard for the weekend. The skating session was followed by a theory session where we could clearly connect the teaching methodology behind the skating we did earlier in the afternoon. There were many "A-ha" moments where instructor candidates begin to assimilate practical skating with the theory behind teaching others. These special moments always make my heart sing!

Burgos Circle

Saturday was a very intense day where candidates squeezed their heads to find the proper sequences to teach, putting into practice new ways of teaching that they had learned that they had learned throughout the day. Together with Noelia Menéndez, ICP Level 3 instructor, Apprentice Examiner and head instructor of Segovia Patina(a truly brilliant skating school with more than 220  students and where all instructors are ICP Certified Level 1), we pushed the candidates to challenge their old ways of thinking getting them out of the comfort zone and into new ways of teaching skating.

Burgos Teaching 2018

Sunday went by fast. The written test done was done first thing in the morning, followed by teaching exams and skating skill evaluations. These sessions made the group closer, with candidates supporting each other through the very intese day. It was fantastic to feel the energy of the group and the bond between the candidates develop. As always, the ICP brings candidates from very different backgrounds together with the same passion: teaching to others to skate.

Sunday went super fast, written exam, teaching exam, and teaching exam completed, the group getting closer, with the students supporting each other during a hard day. It was fantastic to feel the energy of the group, to feel as the bonds between them narrowed, as always ICP makes all the skaters, regardless of the discipline are together with the same passion: Teaching to skate
