ICP Level 1 Certification Program Details

Level 1 is for those who want to teach the fundamentals of inline skating: gliding, striding, stopping and turning on inline skates. Those participating in this program will acquire valuable insights and expertise in an internationally recognized format of teaching progressions and skating terminology.

Through comprehensive skill modules, "skates-on" teaching sessions, and supplemental coursework, instructor candidates will gain a profound understanding of the Inline Certification Program's systematic and research based instructional approach that is designed to empower instructors with the tools and techniques necessary to create an engaging, effective, and safe learning environment. With exposure to standardized teaching progressions, instructor candidates will be equipped to enhance their instructional methods, ensuring a consistent and high-quality educational experience for their skating students. The Inline Certification Program's internationally recognized format not only aligns with global educational standards, but also promotes a cohesive and shared language among instructors worldwide, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange on a broader scale. As candidates delve into this program, regardless of their teaching experience, they will not only refine their own skating and teaching skills but also become part of a global community committed to elevating the standards of skating education and enriching the learning journey for skaters around the world.

The Online Program Includes:

  • 14+ hours of livestream learning and evaluation (theory, virtual skating skills clinic, peer teaching, etc.) over 4 weeks.
  • 10+ hours of self paced graded assignments to reinforce understanding of teaching methodology and practical application of materials over 4 weeks.
  • Instructional Model for Teaching the Sport of Inline Skating
  • Instruction by ICP International Examiner
  • Video Analysis of Skating & Teaching
  • Seminar on getting started as an instructor
  • Recognition as “ICP Certified®” & Annual Registration fee (Website listing, lesson referrals, professional discounts, instructor only online forum, etc..) through next calendar year*
  • Use of ICP Mark**

Course  Requirements

 

All instructor candidates must begin with Level 1.  Full Protective Gear (Helmet, Knee Pads, Elbow Pads, Wrist Guards) and Heel Brake are compulsory and must be worn throughout program when on skates for both in-person and online programs.

Instructor candidates must exhibit intermediate skating skills including backward skating, forward to backward transitions and crossovers. A complete listing of required skills can be found below.

The teachable skills are tested and you must be able to do perform these to a high standard to be able to pass.

The additional skills are marked from 0-2 points and will be added to your final score
