Level 2...An Instructors Perspective! Nivel 2 ... Una Perspectiva instructores!

Facing an ICP certification course is always a challenge.  It doesn’t matter if it is a Level 1 or a Level 2,  the same questions keep popping up inside me: Will I be able to? Have I acquired all the skills I need? Am I a good enough instructor to go for this challenge? Will I be able to pass?

When you arrive to a Level 1 course, you don’t really know what you are facing; written exam, teaching exam, skating skills exam.. Skills seem easy but executing and teaching them correctly isn’t that easy. In Level 1 you acquire the structure, your skating and your teaching becomes more solid, and in my case, it opened my eyes and gave wings to fly alone.

So nearly two years after doing my Level 1, I started preparing a new challenge: Level 2. In the school I teach skating, we use ICP teaching method, but I needed to keep on working on my own skating to meet the challenge, teaching, working , add 42 years old and 100 kgs of weight and there were moments that I really thought I couldn’t do it. So, with a lot of hard work  and effort on Friday 20^Th of March the Level 2 began.

The structure of both courses is really similar, but differences are enormous as teaching skills are more complex and numerous, and the course is more focused on teaching and analyzing. And in my point of view it is in analyzing  where the biggest difference lies. There are subtle differences between a well and bad executed skill, how to support your students so that a skill is easier, how to face teaching challenges using all the resources on hand (different levels in the same class, same skill for different levels…) think, think, think…. And that’s what Level 2 has given me, apart from new skills to teach, it has taught me what to look for, what to correct, and how to do it.

And I have simple loved it, sharing the experiences of other instructors, the problems they face and their solutions, watching different ways of teaching, absorbing Asha Kirkby’s professionalism and her wide and deep experience as an instructor.

A great pleasure that I hope I can repeat in October, with a new challenge in my calendar and my career, Level 3 in Burgos 9-13 October, 2015 . The calm I felt after getting my level 2 certification has vanished… So KEEP CALM AND SKATE ON

Enfrentarse a un curso de certificación ICP es siempre un reto, da igual si es de nivel 1 o si es de nivel 2, siempre surgen las mismas preguntas en mi interior: ¿seré capaz? ¿Tengo adquiridas las técnicas que necesito? ¿Soy suficientemente buen instructor para superar el reto? ¿Seré capaz…?

Cuando llegas al curso de Nivel 1 realmente no sabes muy bien a que te vas a enfrentar, examen escrito, examen de enseñanza, examen de patinaje, las técnicas parecen sencillas, pero ejecutarlas y enseñarlas bien no es tan sencillo. En el nivel 1 adquieres la estructura, añades solidez a tu enseñanza y a tu patinaje, y en mi caso me abrió los ojos y me dió alas para volar. Así que casi 2 años después de hacer mi nivel 1, empecé a preparar el reto del nivel 2. En la escuela en la que soy instructor enseñamos siguiendo la metodología de ICP, pero tenía que subir mi nivel, seguir trabajando en mi patinaje, enseñar y trabajar, añádele 42 años y 100kgs y hubo momentos que pensé que nunca lo conseguiría, asi que con esfuerzo llegamos al viernes 20 de marzo con ganas de disfrutar del nivel 2.  

La estructura de ambos cursos es muy similar, pero las diferencias son enormes, las técnicas de enseñanza son mucho más complejas y más numerosas. Pero la diferencia principal bajo mi punto de vista está en la capacidad de análisis, en saber cual es la diferencia sutil que existe en na técnica bien ejecutada, en como apoyar al alumno para que sea más fácil, en como enfrentarte a retos utilizando todos tus recursos (clases de diferentes niveles, diferentes habilidades en un mismo grupo), pensar y pensar y pensar… Y eso es lo que me ha aportado el nivel 2, a parte de nuevas técnicas que enseñar,  me ha enseñado a saber que buscar, que corregir y como hacerlo. Y me ha encantado, compartir las experiencias de otros instructores, sus problemas y sus soluciones, ver diferentes formas de enseñar, absorber la profesionalidad de Asha Kirkby y su enorme y profunda experiencia como instructor.

Todo un placer que espero repetir en Octubre con el siguiente reto de mi calendario, el Nivel 3.. la tranquilidad de haber obtenido mi certificación de nivel 2, se ha evaporado!!! Asi que… MANTEN LA CALMA Y SIGUE PATINANDO
