The ICP Welcomes New Instructors in Spain!

Jul 29, 2014

ICP Level 1 Barcelona 25-27 July 2014

This third Level 1 course of the year in Spain (following Burgos in March and Murcia in May) had participants travelling from all over Spain to attend. Only two candidates came from Catalonia region, the rest travelled up to 14hrs from Extremadura, Madrid, Mallorca and even Tenerife.

Asha was joined by Apprentice Examiner Pepa Gil who continues her examiner training process. By next year Pepa will be running ICP level 1 courses in Spain allowing Asha to focus on building ICP in South America.

We are noticing that level 1 candidates in Spian are very often the presidents of their local skate club or association which are growing in every location. Skating in Spain is fulfilling a social as well as a sporting role with children, young people and adults of all ages taking up and enjoying skating. Whether it’s doing street skates and tours, speed or slalom the sport continues to increase in popularity. Having the ICP certification helps these clubs to grow and support their members with safe and effective teaching methods.

The group ranged in backgrounds from an ex artistic skater, to an aggressive skater, with 6 months to 15 years of skating experience. Several candidates came from clubs where they had been taught by a current ICP instructor. The group as usual worked hard in very hot conditions. Thankfully there was a hot breeze most of the time which helped but it was intensely hot!

At the end of the course the candidates continually expressed their thanks for everything they had learned and their enthusiasm to go home and out it all into practice was truly genuine. We look forward to seeing their clubs grow further and watch their development as instructors.

Inspired to get certified or take the next level of certification?  The ICP still has two more programs scheduled in Spain for 2014:  Level 1 10-12 October in Murcia & 17-19 October in Burgos.
